Musings on the International Women's Day

Hey Everyone,
Wishing all the women reading this blog a Very Happy Women's Day! Enjoy the parties, discounts and special offers that everyone has in store for you!
And the men who have accidentally stumbled upon this blog... I can understand it's the same day for you...nothing special yet you would be wishing every women you come across today... maybe offering her some gift or a token and may be feeling jealous too...for not being the fairer sex!

I was wondering, In India when we worship Shiva-Shakti or Ardhanarishwara, we accept the fact that men and women compliment each other then why we need to celebrate Women's Day and if we do then why not celebrate Men's Day also? Men are a significant part of our life. They have their own strengths and we have our own.

In ancient times, during the Vedic period, women were considered equal to men and actually treated as Shakti. None of the rituals were concluded without the presence of the woman and then over a period of time, women were suppressed and were being treated as the weaker sex. This all lead to all the Women Empowerment Movements, Feminist Movements but again a time has come when women are again treated equal to men. The first Women's Day was celebrated more than 100 years ago demanding equal rights for women... going by that idea, the initial concept of Women's Day has become redundant in most parts of the world and has become more of a marketing campaign now.

I would rather look for a day when there is no need to celebrate any particular gender and all 365 days would be treated as same as should be men and women. Men and women have their own strengths and weaknesses and they can easily survive without the other but it is when the two come together the life moves forward. A lot of time we see the argument that woman is the one who gives birth to a man but for that also she needs a man to plant the seed. If woman is the nurturer, man is the provider. That is also not a stereotype and we can see the role reversal in lot of cases where men prefer to stay at home and women go out to work.

Why do we need to celebrate achievements of women only? Men also work equally hard to achieve a milestone. Let's celebrate both. A lot of people post things like "Blessed are those women whose first child is a daughter"... I wonder how about those women whose first child is a son? Aren't they blessed? Why can't we just celebrate motherhood irrespective of the gender of the child. Another thing that is seen often is during the process of women empowerment, are we trying to suppress men? Why can't we just teach both the genders to respect each other and give them their due credits.

Both need the support of each other to move ahead in life... none is stronger and none is weaker, the only thing is to acknowledge the strengths of other that can help you overcome your weakness.

You may or may not agree with me but do share your thoughts in comments!

After all the serious talk, the woman in me can't resist to end this post with

Makeup for a lot of women (specially in India) mean Lipstick and Kaajal. You ask any random person what she uses in Makeup and there are high chances that you'll hear 'just lipstick and Kaajal'... and I get to hear that almost everyday! Hence, I decided to help women move beyond Lipstick and Kaajal and explore other beautiful stuff like concealers and mascaras!

So, I am Neha Suradkar, the author of this blog Makeup Sutra- Beyond Lipstick & Kaajal.  A Makeup & Nail Artist and Trainer, a Style Coach™, an Etiquette Trainer, a Corporate Coach and a Fashion Educator, and a Blogger with an experience of more than a decade in the fields of Fashion Design Teaching and Research, Personal Style Consulting, Makeup, Styling and Training.

Sharing knowledge is my passion and so is writing and what could be a better way to share knowledge than putting it up on a blog and making it accessible for everyone. Being a blogger for 4 years now, I have enjoyed sharing my knowledge and experience with people and will continue doing so. The blog will have a lot of reviews about products/services that I will be using; tips on dressing up, clearing out myths and facts about grooming and also a lot of random musings!

Blogs are fun when interactive... so I would love to hear from my readers whenever you like something (or even dislike!!). Comments and e-mails are most welcome. You may reach us at neha@themakeupsutrablog.com
